Pluto Safety PLC, Base Unit
Pluto from ABB is an “All-Master” safety PLC concept, which simplifies the design of safety systems and achieves the highest safety category 4 according to EN 954-1. All Pluto’s are Master units and can see the other Pluto’s inputs, outputs and global memories. This enables the Pluto to evaluate the information from the other Pluto’s and then take decisions concerning its own safety devices. The Gateway units are available for several different bus systems, i.e. Profibus (733-4836), CanOpen (733-4830), Devicenet (733-4849) and Ethernet (733-4842). Of Pluto’s inputs (the smallest unit has 16 I/O), thus can be configured as either inputs or outputs. In the Pluto family by ABB most modules have dual safety outputs – potential free or PNP types. In a two-wire bus system up to 32 Pluto units can be safely connected and communicate with a superior system via a Gateway or HMI displays. Therefore within a maximum extended system 1472 I/O’s can be connected. Also all input components may be connected in series for even more complexity and optimisation.
Simple and easy programming facilities
Easy to configure and install
Up to 640 I/O’s
Multiple Plutos can be connected on a bus (via using the IDFIX identifier) and then further interfaced with external networks by using a Gateway, typical example RS stock number (733-4842)
High safety level
Free software available
Programming over the bus
35 mm DIN rail mounting
The IDFIX (733-4824) is an identification circuit which allows multiple Plutos to be identified when connected on a bus system. This module is available to distribute a PLC program within a network of Pluto devices.
Tina adapters such as (733-2477) can be used to connect external safety monitoring equipment
Note
The IDFIX device (733-4824) is connected between the input terminals ID and 0V (also note that the IDFIX device is not required when using a single Pluto, however the absense of an IDFIX requires to be stated when programming the Pluto device.)
